Dave Whamond's Doodletown: 12 Days of Christmas illustration up for NCS Reuben Award

12 April 2018

Who doesn't love good old fashioned cartoons? They're funny, sarcastic, whimsical and they make us smirk or laugh out loud. We love them! The owner of Cobble Hill Puzzle Co, Dave Manga, has always had an affinity for our cartoon jigsaw puzzles in the Doodletown series. While these puzzles are definitely a step away from our classic nostalgic feel, the style adds a fun factor to the company's endearing line of jigsaws.

Manga's love for the cartoon puzzles is clearly shared by others, not just in terms of our puzzle sales, but awards!

The National Cartoonists Society has nominated Dave Whamond, the cartoonist for our Cobble Hill Puzzle Co's "Doodletown: 12 Days of Christmas" 1000 piece puzzle, for a Reuben Award in the category of Advertising / Product Illustration. This illustration is only one of many that he has created for Cobble Hill. His original works were of national icons including South Dakota's Mount Rushmore, San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, Toronto's CN Tower, and New York's Empire State Building.  In late 2017, Cobble Hill released a Doodletown Christmas series with Mr. Whamond's illustrations including 12 Days of Christmas (nominated), Elves at Work, and Hockey Town.

We're excited for his nomination, not just because he illustrated a fun, engaging and humourous puzzle, but also because he's from Calgary, AB! We have to root for the Canadian to win! He is up against two American cartoonists in this category and the winner will be announced on May 26th in Philadelphia, PA.

Take a look at all of Dave Whamond's illustrations in our Doodletown cartooon collection.

 Good luck Dave!
